VENTS PROJECT OUTLINE During the Late Carboniferous – Early Permian, the northern margin of
the Bohemian Massif was characterized by the formation of tectonically
controlled, continental, intermontane
basins and by strong volcanic
activity. Volcanic and subvolcanic products of this post-orogenic, predominantly silica-rich, calc-alkaline magmatism are
intercalated within the sedimentary fill of the intermontane basins, like the
The VENTS project was initiated in 2006. Originally planned for 6
years, it has recently been extended till 2018. The project groups earth
scientists carrying out research in the fields of geology, paleaovolcanology, petrology, geochemistry and mineralogy, involved in studies of Permo-Carboniferous magmatism in Central Europe. The studies focus in
the northern part of the Bohemian Massif and adjacent areas of The VENTS project has been
supported by German Research Foundation (DFG), the Wroc³aw University, the
Warsaw University, the Adam Mickiewicz University, the Jagiellonian
University, the Mineralogical Society of Poland, and the Czech Geological
Survey. |
