Altenberg-Teplice Volcanic Complex VENTS field workshop

VENTS members Vlado Rapprich and Christoph Breitkreuz organized a two days field workshop (May 11th to 12th, 2012) on the Carboniferous Altenberg-Teplice Volcanic Complex (ATVC), that stretches c. 30 km N-S on both sides of the German-Czech border in the Erzgebirge/Krusne Hory. In a one-day seminar attended by 24 VENTians (including four Polish entusiasts!), and hosted kindly enough by the museum in Teplice (thanks Miroslav Radon!!), some twelve talks illuminated the state-of-the-art of the ATVC. The ATVC has also economic relevance since it harbours important Sn, Li deposits. Next day, a field trip guided by Christoph Breitkreuz and Manuel Lapp led to key ATVC outcrops on the German side (see attached documents). The ATVC VENTS field workshop served well as a kick off meeting for an ongoing Czech-German cooperation on this important complex. It aims at the merging and homogenization of existing data from both countries, and adding new data on volcanic facies, stratigraphy and petrophysics (paleomagnetics and natural radiation).
