The fourth VENTS workshop has been held at Miękinia
near Kraków in Poland
on 21st-24th May 2009. The workshop has been attended
by ca. 35 participants (including 13 students) from Poland, Germany
and the Czech Republic. During the meeting 25
lectures and posters were presented. Two field trips were organized. The
topic of first one was "Permo-Carboniferous volcanism of the Kraków
region", and 5 localities were visited. The second trip,
"Cretaceous alkaline magmatism from the Polish Outer Western Carpathians",
included visits to 3 field stops. The workshop gave the participants a
possibility to learn more about Permo-Carboniferous volcanism few hundred
kilometres east of the Bohemian Massif (outside the 'VENTS realm'), and also
about the teschenites, relatively rare and mineralogically unusual and
diverse alkaline subvolcanic rocks.
