The Second Assessment Field Workshop has been held
near Turnov in the Czech
Republic on 15th-19th
June 2007. The venue of the meeting was the Sedmihorky Camp, in the heart of
the Bohemian Paradise, famous for its geo-touristic attractions. The Workshop
has been organized and sponsored by several institutions, including Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG); Česká geologická služba, Praha (ČGS); Muzeum
Českého ráje, Turnov; Ústav geologie a paleontologie, Přírodovědecká fakulta
Univerzity Karlovy v Praze; Institut für Geologie, TU-Bergakademie Freiberg;
Instytut Nauk Geologicznych, Wrocław
University; Bohemian
Paradise Geopark. The meeting attracted nearly 20 participants (research
fellows and students) from the Czech
Republic, Poland
and Germany.
13 lectures were given during the seminar sessions, and 14 localities were
visited during the field trips. The field stops included excellent localities
of Permo-Carboniferous and also Cenozoic volcanic rocks in the Karkonosze Piedmont
Basin as well as in the Intra-Sudetic
Basin (Czech part) and in the Elbe
volcano-tectonic zone. The lectures and field stops stimulated discussions on
the volcanic processes that shaped some of the most remarkable features of
the present Bohemian Paradise. See the links below!
